Chief Executive Officer
Tom Mertz has spent the last twenty years serving in various leadership roles in the Mission Critical Industry. Joining Canara, Inc., as Chief Executive Officer in June of 2014, Tom is leading the team to implement a growth plan that taps into the industry’s need for more proactive and effective management solutions for backup power systems. Prior to Canara, Tom was the Executive Vice President for the Enterprise Division of QTS, which owns, operates and manages over 3.8 million square feet of state-of-the-art data center facilities.
Tom also spent 10 years at Lee Technologies where he was instrumental in leading that company’s transformation from a products based sales organization into a leading solutions provider focused on the Mission Critical Industry. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public and Urban Affairs from Georgia State University with continued leadership education at Emory’s Goizueta Business School and George Mason University.
Chief Operations Officer
Chris brings over 20 years of operational leadership and broad functional perspective to Canara and his role as Chief Operations Officer. With deep experience in strategic planning, product management, sales operations and support, his focus will be on optimizing day-to-day operations for Canara, and ensuring the company’s ability to execute and deliver on growth strategies and initiatives.
Prior to Canara, Chris spent over 15 years in the IT business services space successfully leading various Sales Operations, Marketing and Product teams at QTS, Internap Network Services, and BellSouth. Chris graduated with honors from both The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Chief Financial Officer
Mark Elder is an experienced operational and financial management executive with over 20 years experience helping high growth, emerging companies to develop and thrive. Early in his career, Mark spent 10 years as a management consultant in Silicon Valley focused exclusively on the challenges that new enterprises face; helping them raise capital, develop their business models, and establish robust management systems for maximizing growth and profitability.
Prior to joining Canara, Mark has held a number of senior finance and operations roles including President and COO of Swell Commerce, Inc., CFO of EOexchange, and CFO of New Media Corporation. Mark has a degree in economics from the University of California, San Diego where he graduated with honors
Chief Technical Officer
Brian has a proven background with over 30 years of experience in product concept, design, manufacture and sales in the electronics control arena. Training with the Royal Air Force, Brian has excelled in fields from electronics and software design through high volume electronics production management. In 1984 Brian co-founded Topform Electronics and grew it to over 35 people, designing and producing its own robotic production equipment and production test computer as well as electronic controls for high integrity industries such as nuclear and automotive. The company was sold to a privately owned technology group in 1991 where Brian continued to hold several, high level technical and operational directorships. Brian formed NDSL for the technology group 1995 and as CEO/ CTO conceived the first, modular, fiber optic based, battery monitoring system for critical power applications.
Prior to joining Canara, Brian spent 12 years managing a global sales team selling critical power monitoring solutions to Fortune 500 companies around the world.
